MZUZI & THE BOX
A HANDCRAFTED BEAUTIFULLY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
Among all the many benefits of illustrations, there is the superpower to tell the story with illustrations. The word “illustration” origins for the Latin “illustrare” which meaning is to light up, illuminate, explain. That said, we had the pleasure of working with MZUZI and our talented illustrator Mayah Robinson, to produce the first in a series of curriculum-based graphic novels.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to create a book that seamlessly integrated the feel of a graphic novel with the functionality of a curriculum teaching aide. The audience we were tasked to engage were high school students. Keeping this in mind, we set out to create a bright vibrant experience for the young readers. Going through the raw text and pulling out the most impactful moments set the tone of the project and allowed us to map out the art and layout from the early stages of the project.
